Former Director of RAB's Intelligence Wing and Major General in July 2024, Ziaul Ahsan was detained from Hazrat Shah Jalal Airport while attempting to flee on the 7th of August 2024. Ahsan was formally arrested in connection with the murder of street vendor Shahjahan Ali during protests in the New Market area. He has been also involved in pre-July extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and surveillance misuse.
